Ultram common medical uses:
Tramadol is a centrally acting analgesic. Tramadol is used for pain relief. Tramadol affects chemicals and receptors in the body that are associated with pain.

Ultram dosage:
The usual starting dosage for adults is 25 mg a day.
25 mg of tramadol should be added every 3 days until you reach a total of 100 mg a day. After this, 50 mg may be added daily until you reach a total of 200 mg a day.
Tramadol 50 mg to 100 mg may be taken as needed for pain relief every 4 to 6 hours.
Do not exceed 400 mg a day.

    Blurred vision, nasal congestion, nasopharyngitis, rhinorrhea, sneezing, sore throat, visual disturbance (1% to less than 5%).
  • GastroIntestinal
    Constipation (46%); nausea (40%); vomiting (17%); dyspepsia (13%); diarrhea, dry mouth (10%); anorexia (6%); abdominal pain, flatulence, viral gastroenteritis (1% to less than 5%).

Ultram precautions:
Tell your doctor yif you are allergic to tramadol or any other drugs. Limit alcohol as it can add to the dizziness or drowsiness effects caused by the Tramadol. Ultram drug interactions

  • Carbamazepine - may reduce serum tramadol levels, leading to decreased efficacy.
  • CNS depressants (eg, alcohol, anesthetics, narcotics, phenothiazines, sedative-hypnotics, tranquilizers) - risk of CNS and respiratory depression may be increased.
  • Digoxin - digoxin toxicity has been reported.
  • Drugs that reduce the seizure threshold, MAOIs, neuroleptics, other opioids, SSRIs, and tricyclic antidepressants and other tricyclic compounds (eg, cyclobenzaprine) - risk of seizures may be increased.
  • Quinidine - tramadol plasma levels may be increased; however, the clinical importance of this interaction is not known.
  • SSRIs - increased risk of serotonin syndrome.
  • Warfarin - anticoagulant effect of warfarin may be increased.

Postmarketing reports following tramadol use during pregnancy include neonatal seizures, withdrawal syndrome, fetal death and stillbirth. Not recommended for use during labor and delivery.

Overdose:
If overdose is suspected, contact your local poison control center or emergency room immediately. Symptoms of overdose may include cold and clammy skin, shallow, weak breathing, low body temperature, difficulty breathing, drowsiness, dizziness, lightheadedness, deep sleep, loss of consciousness, or seizures.

Missed dose:
If you miss a dose, take the missed dose as soon as you remember it. Do not take it if it is near the time for the next dose, skip the missed dose and continue your usual dosing schedule. Do not double the dose to catch up.
